At birth, a calf has an underdeveloped immune system and lacks sufficient antibodies to ensure its growth. It needs colostrum to strengthen its health and to grow up within the herd.
Colostrum protects the calf against various external diseases (diarrhoea, pneumonia, etc.).The administration of this "first milk" helps to ensure good growth and a strong immune system until the calf is born.
